The Top 10 Questions We’ve Been Asked This Week

There’s no such thing as a dumb question, I always say. The only people who pretend to know everything are fools and con-artists. Anyway, if I wanted to learn about your business, I wouldn’t learn much unless I asked, right? Right.

# 1 : How do I make a call with a VoIP phone?

Exactly the same way you do now. No difference. The magic happens behind the scenes, when your voice gets converted to data packets, them unpacked back into your voice for the person on the other end of your call.

# 2 : How are the charge calculated for local vs. long distance?

With a hosted phone system, you pay a flat rate per VoIP phone. That rate will make you smile, because it will be far less than the traditional over-priced dial tone you’re currently using. Included in that flat rate is long distance calls. Sales tax still applies with VoIP, but there are none the fees and surcharges and random taxes you are used to seeing on your phone bill.

# 3 : Does my computer need to be turned on to use it?

Nope. Your phones run right off your internet device (router, modem, whatever). No computers necessary. All the brains of the phone system are in the cloud.

# 4 : Can I use my computer and be on the phone at the same time?

Yep! See above. VoIP doesn’t care either way.

# 5 : Can I take VoIP with me when I travel?

Yes! Pick your phone up off your desk, take it home or across the world, plug it into any internet connection, and watch the magic. Your phone will automatically find its mother ship (well, actually, the hosted VoIP server, but ‘mother ship’ just sounds more fun) and operate just as if you were sitting at your desk. You will be able to access your voicemails, page your co-workers, and transfer calls. When you make a call, your Caller ID will say the same thing it always does – unless you log you’re your system controls and change it yourself. And when a customer or vendor calls your main number, you’ll receive the call just like normal.

# 6 : How is the sound quality?

While many worry that it will sound choppy or have volume issues, that’s seldom the case. VoIP works well for those that use it, and you won’t be able to tell the difference. Since most large businesses have already switched to VoIP, you’ve certainly had conversations with VoIP technology and never knew it. (You think they could afford to keep you on-hold for thirty minutes without VoIP?)

# 7 : Do I have to sign a contract?

No, you do not. Most of our customers choose a 24-month contract because the monthly rate is a little better, and they’re locked into that beautifully low rate. But we offer 12 month contracts and even month-to-month. We aim to please.

# 8 : What if my internet does down?

Check out our last blog post on that subject. Short answer is: don’t worry. We’ve got you covered.

# 9 : What if I don’t like the service?

You will. But we offer a one-week, no-risk trial, so you’re not risking anything by trying it out. And we’ve never had a customer go back to the old copper-wire-hanging-from-a telephone-pole technology. Once you see what your monthly phone bill could look like if you switched to VoIP, you’ll never want to go back either.

# 10 : Why should I choose a local VoIP service provider?

Well, for one thing, if you need a hand with your VoIP phones, your legacy phone system using VoIP lines, your internet hardware, or even your office cabling, we’re close by. Also, the VoIP service we provide is tier-one, which means it’s the highest quality available. And our rates are highly competitive. We’ve been servicing San Antonio and South Texas since 1994, and most of our customer have been with us for years (if not decades) because we’re loyal to them. So you’re getting a top-tier product from a trustworthy source who can be on-site in a snap if you need us.

There you have it – ten questions asked and answered. What didn’t I cover? Leave a comment below so I can help!

Until next time, have a great week.
